The Caspian Air Cargo Summit 2011, jointly organized and sponsored by Silk Way Holding, Azerbaijan Airlines and Euroavia Company, closed its final session on October 11th. It was the one of largest and most comprehensive aviation events in the region, attracting the international air cargo market leaders to Baku. More than 150 delegates from 20 countries looked for new contacts, as this conference provides unrivaled business opportunities for the leading airlines, airports, project developers and aviation service providers.
Silk Way Airlines received the second B747-400 freighter on October 8th, and will initially expand the operation to Seoul (ICN), with plans to serve Hong Kong after this service launch.
Silk Way Airlines celebrates its 10th Anniversary with great developments and the growth of our fleet.
The 10th Anniversary International Transport, Transit and Logistics Exhibition, TransCaspian 2011, took place from June 16th to 18th in Baku at the Expo Centre. Silk Way Airlines and Azerbaijan Airlines, supported by the Ministry of Transport of the Azerbaijan Republic, jointly participated in this transport forum.
On July 6th, 2011, The Azerbaijan State Civil Aviation Administration formed a special committee that includes representatives from CAA and Silk Way Airlines. On the same evening group of committee specialists arrived at Bagram Airport on Silk Way Airlines special charter flight. The group later departed to Kabul International Airport to start the organization procedures for access to the alleged place of crash. With support of Ministry of Transport of Afghanistan, together with ISAF Coalition Forces, an emergency briefing was held to establish the rescue plan and determine the exact number of victims among the 9 crew members:

At the same time, the Government of Afghanistan formed a committee under Ministry of Transport of Afghanistan to investigate the plane crash, together with Representatives of our committee. The committee team presence is very limited due to the hard to reach crash area in mountains with active military action on site. Despite these factors, with support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, US Embassy in Azerbaijan, ISAF forces and Afghanistan Law enforcement, the committee is looking for any possibilities to get access to the aircraft crew members' remains and find out the preliminary information about the crash.
Azerbaijan Republic committee team will stay in the country until the all necessary formalities have been finished.
Silk Way Airlines Ilyushin IL-76, on behalf of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), registration 4K-AZ55 operated a freight flight from Baku (Azerbaijan) to Bagram Air Force Base (Afghanistan) with 9 crew and 18 tones of cargo (automobiles and trailers), was on approach to Bagram's Air Force Base, located about 22.5 nm north of Kabul, when radar contact was lost with the aircraft. The aircraft was flying about 13.5nm from Kabul descending through 4000 meters/13000 feet at around 00:10L (19:40Z Jul 5th), no emergency call and no report about any anomaly had been received from the crew. The aircraft was located, in flames, on a mountain side near Akhshay in the Ghorband/Syahgerd district at 3800 meters of elevation.
Silk Way Airlines and Azerbaijan Airlines jointly participated in Azerbaijan's 18th annual Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition.
Every year, the exhibition and conference, which is supported by the government, brings together rookies and major players from the world's oil sector. The prestige of the exhibition is confirmed by the annual participation of the President of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, in the opening ceremony. Traditionally, the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) provides support for the Caspian Oil & Gas exhibition, which expects over 300 companies from 28 countries this year, including representatives from the production and management of every area of the oil and gas industry, representatives of oil and petroleum products transportation, and environmentalists and scientists to attend.
